The Madhya Pradesh government has increased the financial aid provided to women under the 'Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah/Nikah Yojana' to Rs 51,000 from the previous Rs 49,000.

The announcement was made by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan during an event in Sonkatch, Dewas district.

The increase in financial aid aims to support the marriages of economically disadvantaged women.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing for upcoming elections in the state, while the opposition Congress party has also made promises regarding financial support for women.

Chief Minister Chouhan highlighted the Ladli Laxmi Yojana, which provides financial assistance to girls from birth until they reach the age of 21, making them "lakhpati" (having one lakh or more) by issuing certificates and payments at various stages.
